Russian Dating Sites & Apps in 2026: What Still Works and What's Safe

By Vicky from DateAtlas9 min read

Badoo is the most-used dating app in Russia in our dataset, scoring 9/10 for usage across the ten apps we track there, with the homegrown platform Mamba second at 8/10. The safety answer is less comfortable: those ten apps average 5.5/10 on our per-country safety score, the lowest average of all 30 countries DateAtlas covers, and the only two records in our entire 309-row app dataset that score 4/10 or below are both Russian.

DateAtlas dataset v2026.07. Usage and safety are DateAtlas estimates on a 0-10 scale; prices are the monthly premium tier we recorded, converted to USD. Play Store figures come from our Google Play snapshot — the scrape date is on the methodology page — and 'no listing data' means we hold none for that app.

The full country profile, including the same table with score bars and the apps' feature flags, lives on our Russia dating guide.

What "usage score" does and does not mean

Our usage score is a DateAtlas estimate of how widely an app is used in a specific country, on a 0–10 scale. It is not a measured monthly-active-user figure, and no dating company reports country-level MAU to us. Treat a 9 versus an 8 as "both are mainstream here", not as a precise gap. The scores are editorial estimates, exactly as described in our methodology.

Two things in the table survive that caveat, because they do not depend on the score at all. Mamba carries the highest Play Store rating in the Russian set at 4.4★ from 833,000 reviews — better than Badoo's 4.0★ and Tinder's 3.8★, both of which are rated on far larger global review bases. And Pure sits at 2.6★ from 112,000 reviews, with 53.0% of those reviews being one-star. That is the worst review distribution of any app in our Play snapshot.

Safety: the part most "best Russian dating sites" lists skip

Russia is one of 13 of our 30 countries flagged for scam prevalence in our comparison data. That flag is an editorial classification, not a fraud statistic — we do not have police-report data — but it is applied consistently across every country page and Russia carries it.

The sharper signal is the per-app safety score. Across all 309 app-country records in our dataset, exactly two score 4/10 or lower: Pure in Russia and LovePlanet in Russia. Both are also the only two apps in the Russian set whose feature data records no profile verification at all. The two most-used apps in the country, Badoo and Mamba, both sit at 5/10 — below the 7.05/10 average we record for apps in the United States and well below Sweden's 8.30/10, the highest country average we hold.

The highest safety score in the Russian set is Teamo at 7/10, a questionnaire-based matchmaking service. It is also the most expensive at $12.99 a month and the second-least-used. That trade-off — the safer-scoring options here are the smaller ones — is the honest shape of this market in our data.

If you take one operational step from this post, take it from our safety guide: verify by video call before meeting, meet in a public place, and treat any conversation that moves to money as over.

Price: Russia is the cheapest dating market we measure

Averaged across the ten apps we track, a monthly premium tier in Russia costs $7.49. That is the lowest of all 30 countries in our dataset. Germany, the most expensive, averages $31.18 — 4.2 times more for a comparable tier.

The same app is priced very differently by country. We recorded Tinder at $5.99 a month in Russia against $22.99 in Switzerland; across all 30 countries Tinder's recorded premium price varies by a factor of 5.8, from $3.99 in Vietnam to that Swiss figure. Prices in our dataset are what we recorded and converted to USD, not official list prices, and they move.

Offline, a night out is mid-priced by our measure: Russia's average date cost is $66, which puts it 12th cheapest of 30 — cheaper than Poland ($75) or Japan ($88), more expensive than Turkey ($62) or Thailand ($47). That figure is Numbeo-derived: a mid-range meal for two plus two domestic beers plus two cappuccinos.

The local-phone-number problem

Four of the ten apps we track in Russia are flagged as needing a local phone number or SIM to register: Fotostrana, Tabor, Teamo and Topface. Russia is one of only seven countries in our dataset where we flag this requirement on any app at all. Practically, that splits the market: the international apps (Badoo, Tinder, Happn) and Mamba are reachable without a Russian number, while several of the platforms with the strongest reach outside Moscow and Saint Petersburg are not.

Who is actually on these apps

Russia has the lowest male-to-female ratio of all 30 countries we track: 0.87 males per female in the total population, per the CIA World Factbook sex-ratio tables we use.

That number is routinely misread, so here is the breakdown behind it. In the 25–54 bracket — the one that actually matters for dating — the ratio is 0.97, essentially balanced. The 0.87 headline is driven by the older brackets: 0.77 at 55–64 and 0.47 above 65. The famous "far more women than men in Russia" claim is a story about male mortality after 50, not about the dating pool at 30.

Russia scores 532 on the EF English Proficiency Index — "Moderate proficiency", 16th of our 30 countries — and our dataset records an estimated online-dating user base of 11M, the fifth largest we hold. Its composite DateAtlas Dating Score is 66.1 out of 100, joint 28th of 30, held down by our LGBTQ+ and cultural-openness components (45.0 and 36.0 on the normalised 0–100 scale) rather than by cost or app availability.

What this data cannot tell you

Our safety and usage scores are editorial estimates, not measurements of fraud, moderation quality or outcomes. We do not measure fake-profile rates, report-response times, or whether an app still accepts foreign payment cards. Play Store figures are a point-in-time snapshot. Availability in this market changes faster than our import cycle — if the table above no longer matches reality, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed.

Frequently asked questions

Badoo, with a usage score of 9/10 in our Russian dataset — the highest of the ten apps we track there. Mamba, the largest homegrown platform, is second at 8/10, and it carries the best Play Store rating in the set at 4.4★ from 833,000 reviews. Tinder, Tabor and Fotostrana are joint third at 7/10.

Are Russian dating sites safe?

Our data says treat them carefully. The ten apps we track in Russia average 5.5/10 on our safety score, the lowest country average of the 30 we cover, and Russia is one of 13 countries we flag for scam prevalence. The two lowest-scoring records in our whole 309-row dataset, Pure and LovePlanet at 4/10, are both Russian, and neither records profile verification.

Do I need a Russian phone number to use dating apps in Russia?

For four of the ten apps we track, yes: Fotostrana, Tabor, Teamo and Topface are all flagged in our dataset as requiring a local number or SIM to register. Badoo, Mamba, Tinder, Happn, Pure and LovePlanet are not. Russia is one of only seven countries where we flag this requirement on any app.

How much do dating apps cost in Russia?

Cheaper than anywhere else we measure. The average monthly premium tier across the ten Russian apps is $7.49, the lowest of all 30 countries in our dataset and about a quarter of Germany's $31.18 average. Badoo and Fotostrana are the cheapest at $4.99 a month; Teamo is the most expensive at $12.99.

Which Russian dating app has the best reviews?

Mamba, at 4.4★ from 833,000 Google Play reviews in our snapshot — ahead of LovePlanet at 4.1★, Badoo at 4.0★, Tabor at 3.9★ and Tinder at 3.8★. The worst in the set by a wide margin is Pure at 2.6★, where 53.0% of its 112,000 reviews are one-star.

Does Tinder still work in Russia?

Tinder is in our Russian dataset with a usage score of 7/10 and a recorded premium price of $5.99 a month — among its cheapest anywhere, with only Vietnam ($3.99), India and Indonesia ($4.99) lower and Malaysia level at $5.99. Availability in this market changes faster than our import cycle, so confirm in your own app store before paying for anything.
